Joshua Bender

BenderJoshua Bender is currently completing his Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies at the University of California, San Diego. He holds an M.A. in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, San Diego, an M.A. in Southeast Asian Studies from the University of Washington, and a B.A. in English and American Literature from New York University. 

His research and teaching interests focus primarily on the supernatural and mythical creatures of Philippine and Filipino/American folklore, indigenous religion, and coloniality. Working at the intersections of literature, history, theology, and hauntology, Joshua's research envisions community-based storytelling and deferred authorship as powerful political tools for articulating narratives of liberation, solidarity, and empowerment in Filipino/American communities.
