christina ong, ph.d. (lowercase preferred)

christina ong (lowercase intentional) is a scholar of social movements and diasporic cultural production. Her longtime work chronicling the impact of the Basement Workshop (1969-1986), the first pan-Asian political and arts organization active in Manhattan’s Chinatown, is the focus of her first monograph and documentary. Her academic and creative works combine her interest in uncovering how diasporas create community through place-based activism and the arts. She is currently a lecturer in Asian & Asian American Studies at San Diego State University.
