Eugene Yi

Professor Eugene Yi is an award winning filmmaker and journalist. He co-directed Free Chol Soo Lee (2024 EMMY® award winner for Outstanding Historical Documentary) with Julie Ha. He directed The Rose: Come Back to Me (TriBeca, Busan, global distribution through CJ4DPLEX) and The A List: 15 Stories from Asian and Pacific Diasporas (HBO). His editing work includes Farewell Ferris Wheel (2018 News and Documentary EMMY®-nominated) and Out of My Hand (Berlinale,  2015 Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award nominee). His print journalism has been honored with numerous awards, including a 2013 LA Press Club Award for an oral history of the riots and rebellion of April 1992 from a Korean American perspective for KoreAm Journal. He is a member of the Asian American Documentary Network, a fellow with the Karen Schmeer Film Diversity in the Edit Room program, and a member of the Director’s Guild of America.
